To clarify the different levels of fragrances, most
perfumes are derived from essential oils extracted
from plants,  these are mixed with alcohol in different
ratios to determine what the final product is called.

Perfume contains 15-40% Perfume concentrate, this is the purest form and most expensive.

Eau de parfum contains 7-15% perfume concentrate, this is the commonest form of  fragrance.

Eau de toilette contains 1-6% concentrate, this is a much lighter and shorter lived fragrance.

Eau de cologne very much the same as eau de toilette.

Pheromones, an alternative form of scent, Pheromones are airborne chemicals emitted to attract the opposite sex. They are believed to be detected on a subconscious level. In other words, you don't know that you're receiving them,  but you are.
If we are honest this is not much different from our reasons for wearing any perfumes.

Basically, the drive to mate is a strong natural instinct in all animals (including humans) and pheromones are the sexual chemicals that drive those sexual instincts.
